The Citadel Vision of City Temple is to develop an urban international Christian fellowship in the City of London that will glorify God the Father by making and equipping disciples of Jesus Christ. City Temple will do this by serving as a resource for the extension of God’s loving rulership in the City and the world and by serving as a refuge for the healing and development of God’s people. We will serve in partnership with other like-minded Christian ministries through prayer, community, worship, outreach, and training in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Picture a towering figure of Jesus Christ standing in the midst of the six-storey City Temple building:
- His head constantly seeking the mind of God for His people, and the advancement of His kingdom in the City and throughout the world (Prayer)
- His upper body shouldering the responsibility of ministering love and practical help to people in need around Him and beyond (Community)
- His heart centred on the worship of God and the love and unity of His people (Worship)
- His hands reaching out to those around Him and far off , and those with no church allegiance (Outreach)
- His feet rooted in the Bible, the eternal Word of God (Training)
Now picture a congregation doing these very same things around the central figure of Jesus at the corresponding levels of a building, developed for this purpose.
This is a vision of the church actively being the body of Christ in the world. A vision that calls for the conforming of the material structure of the building to the divine calling of the church. A vision of mission, not of bricks and mortar.
The Citadel Vision calls for a radical, new and proactive approach to Christian city mission. It calls for City Temple to develop a multi-faceted holistic ministry, where members of the body use their gifts within five broad ministry areas to make, equip and nurture disciples. It is a vision consistent with our Lord's call upon the church to go and make disciples of all nations. It calls for the church to have an expression of itself in the marketplace as well as the traditional areas of church ministry
An important aspect of this vision is a 'Revolving Door Ministry' - with many people coming and going, changed by God through the ministry of City Temple. City Temple will provide a place of safety, renewal and healing, where people can meet God, be ministered to, be discipled and equipped to minister to others, empowered by the Spirit of God.
